  • New one-tonne pick-up model to be unveiled in first half of 2016
  • Pro+ global expert brand unveiled to serve LCV customers and users
  • Renault has been number one in LCVs in Europe for 17 years

As Europe’s number one Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) brand for the past 17 years, and in addition to its strong positions in the South-American and African markets, Renault Group is now shifting up a gear with a view to taking Renault LCV forward from being a top regional player to a top global player.

In order to achieve this ambition, Renault has decided to move into the pick-up market, a segment that accounts for more than one-third of global LCV sales. Last June, in Buenos Aires, the brand launched the distinctive new Renault Duster Oroch pick-up which is intended for the South American market, while the ALASKAN Concept that is being unveiled today is a striking show truck which paves the way for a forthcoming model that will have a global calling.

In parallel to its product and market offensives, Renault is also launching Renault Pro+, a global expert brand committed to serving LCV customers and users. In addition to providing tailor-made products and services, the specialist Renault Pro+ network will deliver a rewarding experience at every step of the journey for business-user customers, from advertising to aftersales service. The Renault Pro+ expert brand embodies Renault’s customer promise and forms an integral part of its plans to become a top global LCV market player.

“We are now equipped to take our Global Growth Plan forward and fulfil the aspirations of business users and individual LCV customers across the world thanks to an enhanced product line-up, new services and an upgraded customer experience”, commented Mr Ashwani Gupta, Vice-President, Global Head of LCVs.

  1. Renault takes the wraps off the ALASKAN Concept pick-up, a one-tonne show truck

After introducing the Duster Oroch earlier this year, Renault is now taking the wraps off the ALASKAN Concept which marks a further step forward in its bid to win over customers in the constantly-growing pick-up market. Pick-ups account for around one-third of total LCV sales and open up a fresh front for Renault’s product offensive.

The ALASKAN Concept is a striking show vehicle that paves the way for a pick-up that will have a global calling. It combines a payload of one tonne with cutting-edge, athletic styling to meet the exacting needs of business users and individuals alike.

The ALASKAN Concept: robust, athletic, cutting-edge styling

The ALASKAN Concept’s status-enhancing design fits perfectly with the aesthetic expectations of the pick-up segment, whilst remaining true to the Renault brand’s own styling cues.

  • A head-turner…

o   The dimensions of the assertive, status enhancing ALASKAN Concept ensure a forceful stance,

o   The design of its robust yet athletic sculpted sides includes prominent wheel arches filled with 21-inch wheels,

o   Its lines combine a sense of high-tech engineering with an impression of robustness.

  • Its eye-catching front-end styling incorporates Renault design cues which bring a modern, aesthetic touch to the world of pick-ups:

o   A large, prominent logo,

o   An impressive bonnet highlighted by four sculptured ribs that heighten the impression of strength,

o   A combination of satin-effect, brushed and polished metal finishes,

o   Blue and yellow detailing on the door mirrors, brake calipers, wheel rim centres and front tow hook visually enhance the ALASKAN Concept’s poise,

o   C-shaped head lights,

o   Full-LED lighting signature.

Laurens van den Acker, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Design, commented: “The styling of the ALASKAN Concept sticks to the rules of the pick-up segment, including impressive dimensions and a visual sense of power and robustness. At the same time, we have dialed in specific Renault cues in the form of an attractive, status-enhancing front-end design.”

  • The ALASKAN Concept is powered by Renault’s proven four-cylinder, twin turbo diesel engine which features in the existing Master range:

o   Twin turbo technology: a small turbo for smooth acceleration at low engine speeds, plus a bigger turbo for higher revs.

o   This longitudinally-mounted twin turbo powertrain is lighter than average equivalent engines,

o   Outstanding acceleration performance, plus class-topping fuel economy and low CO2 emissions.

The ALASKAN Concept: designed to make the most out of life in three different worlds

The ALASKAN Concept is a ‘work hard, play hard’ all-road vehicle designed to meet the requirements of three different worlds: business and leisure use, plus everyday motoring.

  • Perfectly suited to the needs of business users:

o   Strong chassis for excellent road holding, high ground clearance and distinctive driving comfort,

o   A payload of more than one tonne with five passengers onboard and a long, wide load bed,

o   Load bed incorporating three longitudinal recesses suitable for fixing equipment,

o   Additional storage bins either side of the load bed for the secure protection of equipment,

o   Best-in-class fuel efficiency, plus impressive power output and acceleration performance.

  • The ALASKAN Concept is the perfect companion for leisure use, too:

o   Ideal for road trips, adventure or sports use. Its big load bed can comfortably accommodate mountain bikes, camping gear or surfboards, etc. Availability of a range of outdoor accessories (load bed liners, covers, etc.),

o   Premium travelling comfort, together with highest quality standards in terms of equipment and connectivity,

o   Last but not least, a camera located inside the door mirror housings to permit the filming of passing landscapes.

  • For everyday motoring:

o   A status-enhancing vehicle complete with large 21-inch wheels, user-friendly driving comfort and modern urban styling that sets it apart in the pick-up world,

o   A sporty, appealing look:

  • Large LED Pure Vision rear lights with brushed and polished aluminium surrounds framed by C-shape direction indicators,
  • Sophisticated rear-end styling heightened by the central aluminium exhaust tail pipe.

Hasselblad and ALASKAN Concept

Renault and Hasselblad worked jointly to underline the ALASKAN Concept’s ability to adapt to three different types of use: business and leisure use, and everyday motoring. Hasselblad is a Swedish manufacturer of cameras and photographic equipment. It is famous for having provided photographic equipment for the Apollo programme which took men to the moon for the first time.

A one-tonne pick-up to follow in the wake of the ALASKAN Concept show truck:

  • The production version’s design will be similar in spirit to that of the ALASKAN Concept and will feature the same dimensions,
  • A broad range of body types and powertrains will be available,
  • It will be a high-end pick-up for business and leisure use, as well as for everyday motoring,
  • It will capitalize on Renault’s crossover know-how with models like Captur and Kadjar.

This new one-tonne pick-up will be unveiled in the first half of 2016.

  1. Renault outlines its ambitions for the LCV market

As Europe’s number one Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) brand for the past 17 years, and in addition to its strong positions in the South-American and African markets, Renault is now shifting up a gear to take Renault LCV forward from being a top regional player to a top global player. LCVs are a major strategic market, with over 14 million sold in 2014.

In order to achieve this objective, Renault has embarked on assertive product and market offensives, while at the same time striking up solid partnerships and enhancing the experience of its customers thanks to the Renault Pro+ expert brand.

A multi-faceted offensive: products, markets and partnerships

  • Renault LCV is launching an ambitious product offensive, as illustrated by the ALASKAN Concept which paves the way for the one-tonne pick-up.

Other illustrations include:

o   A renewed LCV range

  • The New Trafic and New Master in 2014.
  • The new Kangoo mid-2013.

o   The new Renault Trafic (270 variants)

  • A brand new vehicle and a true mobile office.
  • A huge success with sales amounting to 40,000 vehicles up to end of June 2015, an improvement of 12.5% over the same period in 2014.
  • A multiple award winner, including the 2015 Argus Trophy in France, What Van? awards in the United Kingdom, Van of the Year in Finland, Best LCV in Germany and Croatia, etc.

“The new Trafic replaces the former-generation version which reached sales of more than 1.6 million units. The new Trafic has received a high number of awards; it features numerous innovations, including its Wide View mirror and its mobile office,” commented Pascal Schmitt, Global Commercial Director, LCV Division.

o   The new Renault Master (350 variants)

  • New front design, engine range renewed, latest technologies (incl. ESC, Extended Grip, Wide View mirror etc.), for an updated leader.

o   Electric LCVs

  • Renault was the first brand to offer an electric LCV range (Kangoo Z.E. and Twizy Cargo).
  • The Kangoo Z.E. is marketed in 45 countries.
  • Renault is also launching an offensive in the pick-up market. The pick-up market accounts for more than 5 million vehicles in 2014.

o   The growth in the global LCV market can be primarily attributed to the expanding pick-up market, which comprises three classes:

  • Half-tonne pick-ups: 3% of the global market, with a growth perspective of 35% between 2014 and 2019.
  • One-tonne pick-ups: 17% of the global market, with a growth perspective of 19% between 2014 and 2019.
  • Full-size pick-ups: 18% of the global market (90% in the US and Canada).

Source: Global Insight

o   Renault’s pick-up market offensive: a four-step strategy:

  • The Duster Oroch Concept, unveiled in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in October 2014,
  • The Duster Oroch, unveiled in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in June 2015,
  • The ALASKAN Concept, unveiled today in Paris, France,
  • The one-tonne pick-up, due in the first quarter of 2016, with a global calling.

Focus on the Renault Duster Oroch, designed in and for Latin America

The Renault Duster Oroch is the only pick-up designed on a Sport Utility Vehicle platform, that of the Renault (Dacia in Europe) Duster.

It is a genuine, nimble and reliable double-cab pick-up, with four doors, five seats, and a generously sized load bed. It inherits the Duster’s styling, equipment and accessories, along with additional upgrades and innovations. Its in-car equipment package is worthy of that of a C-segment SUV.

A wide range of accessories allows users to personalize their vehicle and adapt it to their particular use. The Renault Duster is a global success. It is the Group’s best-selling model: about 400,000 units in 2014 in some 100 countries.

  • Along with its product and market offensive, solid partnerships are a fundamental part of Renault LCV’s Global Growth Plan:

o   Nissan and Renault together have developed the one-tonne pick-up truck for Renault which will share some of its architecture with the Nissan NP300.

o   Nissan, Daimler, General Motors Europe and Renault Truck are sharing Renault LCV products, components or expertise thanks to strong long-lasting partnerships.

o   Fiat is a recent newcomer to the Renault LCV partnership portfolio. The Sandouville plant in France is to build a Trafic-based Fiat LCV from mid-2016.

New Fiat 500

New Fiat 500

  • New FIAT 500 available with revised exterior style including new bumpers, front and rear light systems and new colours
  • Enhanced cabin comfort plus new UconnectTM infotainment systems with available DAB and TomTom satellite navigation
  • Engine range now offers more efficiency and eco-friendliness
  • Standard safety systems include ESC, TPMS and seven airbags
  • Even more personalisation options with expressive Second Skins
  • On Sale in September priced from £10,890 OTR

Exactly eight years and more than 1.5 million units since it was launched (on the 50th anniversary of the original car’s launch) the successful and iconic FIAT 500 makes way for its successor: the New FIAT 500. Retaining the unmistakable look that has made it a global best-seller, the new FIAT 500 hasn’t grown in size (L 3.57m / W 1.63m / H 1.49m / WB 2.30m) but instead has grown in maturity with advanced technologies, improved efficiency, even more customisation ideas and a Centro Stile FIAT-refreshed exterior and interior.

No fewer than 1,800 changes have been made to produce the New 500, all designed to enhance the ownership experience and refine its inimitable style. The most changes can be found at the front: New FIAT 500 retains the “face” of its predecessors with headlights which are still circular in shape but which adopt innovative polyellptical modules for improved night vision and extra safety. These clusters integrate the dipped-beam headlamps and turn signals, while lower light cluster integrates the main beam headlights and LED daytime running lights, which adopt the circular profile of the lamp to graphically reproduces the zeros of 500. The bonnet retains its distinctive, traditional clamshell form, another nod to its legendary predecessor, while the trapezoidal nose gets more pronounced ribbing and the auxiliary air vent is now fed via a three-dimensional grille (with chrome-effect buttons on the Lounge version) flanked by chrome brightwork to give the New FIAT 500 stronger visual presence.

New ’empty’ light clusters, comprised of ring-shaped structures with body-coloured centres, define the revised look of the rear, with the fog light and reversing light relocated to the edges of the redesigned bumper trim to improve safety by separating illumination functions.

New alloy wheel designs are also introduced on the New FIAT 500: Pop Star and Lounge models have 15-inch alloy wheels as standard (a £320 option on Pop models) with 16-inch wheels available as a £370 option on Pop models and a £130 upgrade option on Pop Star and Lounge models. An elegant, new diamond-cut design is also available across the range priced from £350 on Pop models or as a £150 upgrade on the rest of the range.

The colour palette now totals 13 hues, including seven special pastel shades (‘Bossa Nova White’ is standard, the other pastel colours are a £350 option), one tri-coat finish (‘Ubran White’ at £740) and five metallic colours (a £460 option) including two new colours: Glam Coral and Avantgarde Bordeaux. Two striking black-yellow and black-red variants are also available as part of the FIAT 500 ‘Second Skin’ programme which offers a range of customisation options capable of satisfying every creative taste imaginable.

There are two ‘Second Skin’ options: the first features a fashionable, geometric pattern along the belt line only (£140) and is available on 500 and 500C models, while the larger skin options cover the pillars and roof (£780) – and in some cases the bonnet and tailgate as well – and is available on the hardtop 500 only. Five patterns are offered: ‘Ethnic’ (geometric pattern); ‘Lord’ (classic tartan); ‘Comics’ (pop decoration) in combination with the new two-colour body paintwork; ‘Navy’ (nautical patterns) and ‘Camouflage’ (fashionably military).

The interior of the FIAT 500 also benefits from numerous enhancements, most noticeably in terms of its dashboard design which now integrates the advanced UconnectTM infotainment across the range. The unit is not only easier to read and more intuitive to use, it also improves connectivity and functionality with steering wheel remote controls and USB / Aux-in ports on all models.

The Lounge version is equipped with the UconnectTM 5″ Radio LIVE system which is a touchscreen unit complete with Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming; voice recognition and an SMS reader for reading text messages received on compatible telephones. It is available as a £250 option on Pop and Pop Star models. DAB digital radio is also available with this unit for an additional £100.

UconnectTM LIVE allows direct access via the touchscreen to TuneIn Internet radio, (100,000 stations); Deezer (over 35 million tracks for ‘Deezer Premium’ users); Reuters; Facebook and Twitter. UconnectTM LIVE can also be used to access eco:Drive, the award-winning driving style app which assists drivers to improve fuel consumption by up to 16 percent by providing driving tips in real time. UconnectTM LIVE even connects directly to my:Car with real time warnings, service deadline memos and an interactive owner handbook to manage car maintenance. The UconnectTM LIVE app can be downloaded from Apple Store or Google Play Store and as soon as the smartphone is connected to the New FIAT 500 Lounge, many applications can be viewed and controlled via the touchscreen of the UconnectTM system. The apps have been designed and adapted for use while driving to keep users concentrated on the road ahead.

For the first time on the FIAT 500, an integrated UconnectTM 5″ Radio Nav LIVE with voice-activated TomTom satellite navigation is available as a £600 option on Pop and Pop Star models (including Bluetooth connectivity and DAB) and as a £350 upgrade for Lounge models (including DAB). The TomTom IQ Routes® function calculates the fastest route based on real-time average speeds (updated every two minutes courtesy of 100 million kilometres of traffic data collected every day) and for maximum safety and ease-of-use the system includes an advanced lane indicator and turn-by-turn instructions which are conveniently displayed on the instrument panel. Users also benefit from the information on the location of fixed and mobile safety cameras and real-time weather forecasts.

For added safety and convenience, the UconnectTM system can be operated via a new steering wheel which features new remote control buttons which are easier to operate and, thanks to their chrome-plated edging and high-quality materials, more pleasant to touch and to behold.

The circular instrument cluster, with analogue dials for speed and engine revs and digital secondary gauges, is retained for Pop and Pop Star models, while the innovative seven-inch TFT display, developed in collaboration with Magneti Marelli, is a £250 option on the Lounge version. It also integrates with the UconnectTM Radio LIVE and UconnectTM Radio Nav LIVE so that the media player, telephone and navigation messages also appear on the screen and the display also reconfigures itself when the Sport button is activated on 0.9 TwinAir Turbo 105hp engine versions.

The front seats adopt a more ergonomic shape and the interior upholstery is available in nine colour combinations with contrasting “crescent” upper portions and head restraints in black or ivory eco-leather. Black, bordeaux or tobacco Frau leather upholstery is also available (depending on model), with embroidered 500 logos on the crescent and contrasting bolster accents.

Further enhancements include a new lidded glove box on the passenger’s side and a revised centre console with new cup holders and a relocated 12V power socket. New electric window switches, which adopt a push-down-pull-up operation, complete the visible interior revisions, while additional soundproofing panels in the wheelhouse and firewall making the passenger compartment even more comfortable and refined.

The New FIAT 500 is powered by a range of environment-friendly, Euro 6-compliant engines combined with five- and six-speed manual gearboxes or a Dualogic robotised transmission depending on the model. The engine line-up available at launch include the 1.2 litre 69hp, the TwinAir 85hp and the TwinAir 105hp.

The TwinAir 0.9 85hp has an official fuel consumption figure of 74.3MPG or 3.8 litres/100 km on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 90g/km (74.3MPG and 88g/km with the Dualogic transmission), remarkable figures which not only have positive environmental implications but which also ease the burden on the owner’s pocket. The 1.2-litre 69hp has a combined fuel efficiency figure of 60.1MPG (4.7L/100km) and CO2 emissions of 110g/km (62.8MPG, 4.5L/100km and 105g/km with Dualogic) while the top-of-the-range TwinAir 0.9 105hp manages 67.3 MPG (4.2L/100km) with emissions of 99g/km (no Dualogic option with this engine). Economy and emission performance is identical for convertible 500C models.

In terms of performance, 500/500C models equipped with the 69hp, 102Nm 1.2-litre engine can accelerate to 62MPH in 12.9 seconds and reach 99 MPH, while those powered by the TwinAir 0.9-litre 85hp, 145Nm engine can reach 62MPH in 11.0 seconds and 107MPH. The top TwinAir 0.9-litre 105hp, 145Nm engine, equipped with a six-speed maual gearbox, can propel the FIAT 500 to 62MPH in 10.0 seconds and on to a top speed of 117MPH. Performance figures for Dualogic-equipped 1.2-litre and TwinAir 0.9-litre 85hp models (500 and 500C) are identical.

Engineered to comply with the toughest standards, the FIAT 500 is one of the safest cars in its segment. The popular 1.2 69hp version is now equipped with 257mm front disc brakes for even more effective and powerful braking, and seven airbags (front, window and side airbags, plus a driver’s knee airbag) remain standard across the range as before. Active safety systems include ABS with electronic brake distribution (EBD), advanced electronic stability control (ESC), anti-slip regulation (ASR), Hill Holder and hydraulic brake assistance (HBA) to help with emergency stops.

The New FIAT 500 will be available with three trim levels – Pop, Pop Star and Lounge – and in hatchback and convertible versions.

Standard equipment across the range includes seven airbags; remote central locking; electric front windows; electric mirrors; UconnectTM Radio with six speakers, AUX-IN and USB ports; steering wheel remote controls; Start & Stop; a space-saver spare wheel and LED daytime running lights. New EU6 Engines & Make Dacia Range Even More Shockingly Affordable

Dacia Sandero & Stepway

EU6 engines improve economy and emissions across Dacia range

  • CO2 emissions cut by as much as 30g/km
  • Road Fund Licence costs fall by up to £170 per year
  • Engine Stop and Start system fitted as standard
  • All-new 1.6 16V 115 engine added to Duster line-up
  • New engine has increased power & improved economy
  • Petrol-powered Ambiance models added with new engine

The Dacia Duster is now even more ‘shockingly affordable’ to run with the introduction of a brand new EU6-compliant 1.6 16V 115 petrol engine which improves performance, reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, significantly reduces running costs and improves the towing capacity of 4×2 models. It replaces the previous 1.6 16V 105 engine.

With its arrival, Dacia now offers a greater number of petrol-engined models in the Duster line-up. Mid-range Ambiance 4×2 and 4×4 versions have been added, giving a more progressive and logical product line. Previously, only entry-level Access models were offered with a petrol engine. The new Ambiance versions are priced at £10,495 (4×2) and £12,495 (4×4). The new petrol engine is also fitted to Access versions, which are priced at £9,495 (4×2) and £11,495 (4×4)

There are also reductions in fuel consumption and emissions for Duster models powered by the dCi 110 turbodiesel engine, which now meets EU6 emissions standards. As with the new petrol engine, this has the effect of lowering the VED band of every model.

There are also improvements to the fuel economy and emissions of most models in the Sandero family and the Logan MCV with the adoption of EU6 engines.

The new 1.6 16V 115 engine

The 115hp 1.6-litre 16-valve engine is a brand new unit, not simply an EU6 version of the petrol engine previously fitted to the Duster. It develops 10hp more than its predecessor at 5,500rpm and has an extra 8Nm of torque – now 156Nm at 4,000rpm. This trims the 0-62mph acceleration time of 4×2 versions from 11.5 to 11.0 seconds, while for 4×4 models the reduction is 0.8 seconds to 12.0 seconds. The top speeds rise by 1mph and 5mph respectively.

By far the greatest gains are in fuel efficiency and running costs, however. For 4×4 versions, CO2 emissions tumble by 30g/km to 155g/km, while NEDC fuel consumption has been reduced by 6.2mpg and is now 41.5mpg. This is sufficient to slash the annual VED cost by £170 to £180. There are substantial gains with 4×2 models, too: CO2 falls by 20g/km to 145g/km, fuel economy improves by 4.3mpg to 44.1mpg and the yearly VED charge is £35 less at £145. The increase in power and torque also raises the towing capacity of 4×2 versions from 1,200 to 1,500kg so that it is now on a par with that of the 4×4 versions. Benefit-in-kind (BIK) taxation is four bands lower with all-wheel drive and two bands lower with front-wheel drive.

The new engine is a 1,598cc unit with multi-point fuel injection, driving through a five-speed manual gearbox in 4×2 models and a six-speed manual in the 4x4s. Engine Stop and Start is standard.

Lower fuel consumption, emissions and running costs for diesels

The advent of EU6 emissions controls also brings improvements in the fuel efficiency and running costs of Duster models powered by the 1.5-litre dCi 110 turbodiesel engine, which now has 20Nm more torque at 260Nm.

NEDC combined fuel consumption is now 64.2mpg (-7.7mpg) in 4×2 models and 60.1mpg (-6.8mpg) in 4x4s; CO2 emissions are down to 115g/km            (-15g/km) and 123g/km (-12g/km) respectively; and every model is one band lower in the VED and BIK scales.

A more progressive and logical model structure

With the introduction of petrol-engined Ambiance models for the first time, Dacia now offers 10 versions of the Duster in a more progressive and logical range.

There are two entry-level Access models (4×2 and 4×4), both powered by the new 1.6 16V 115 engine; mid-range Ambiance trim is available with both engines and both drivelines; and at the top of the range there are Lauréate and Lauréate Prime versions, all diesel, in 4×2 and 4×4 formats.

Greater efficiency and lower costs across the rest of the Dacia range

EU6 engines also bring greater efficiency and lower runing costs to Dacia’s other models in the UK – the Sandero, Sandero Stepway and Logan MCV.

The 1.2-litre 16V 75 engine in the Sandero and Logan MCV now attracts zero VED (previously £130) with a reduction in CO2 emissions from 135g/km to 130g/km. The power output is 73hp and the 107Nm of torque now peaks at a much lower 4,250rpm, improving performance. Fuel economy is unchanged at 48.7mpg.

With the 0.9-litre TCe 90 engine available in all three models, torque has risen from 135Nm to 140Nm, and Stop & Start is now standard. CO2 emissions are down by 7g/km to 109g/km in the Sandero and Logan MCV, and by 9g/km to 115g/km in the Stepway, while the respective fuel economy improvements are 1.2mpg to 57.7mpg, and 3.1mpg to 55.4mpg.

All three cars are also available with the popular 1.5 dCi 90, and this also needs less fuel and produces lower emissions with the switch to EU6 controls. For the Sandero and Logan MCV, economy improves from 74.3mpg to 80.7mpg, with CO emissions down from 99g/km to 90g/km; in the Stepway economy goes up from 70.6mpg to 74.3mpg, with CO2 down from 105g/km to 98g/km.

  • ZOE now available in Expression Nav, Dynamique Nav and Dynamique Nav Rapid Charge versions

  • Changes coincide with addition of new longer-range motor

  • New motor gives ZOE class-leading 149-mile NEDC range

  • ZOE priced from £13,445 after the Government’s Plug-in Car Grant

  • ZOE sales in UK growing three times faster than the EV market

  • Twizy grades also changed, to Expression, Dynamique & Cargo

Renault has updated the trim levels of two of its three electric vehicles on sale in the UK – the ZOE supermini and urban Twizy – to bring them into line with the company’s combustion-engined vehicles and create a more uniform grading structure across all the brand’s models.

The changes to the ZOE line-up have been timed to coincide with the introduction of a new, in-house-developed, longer-range electric motor. The new line up, with previous models in brackets, consists of Expression Nav (Expression), Dynamique Nav (Dynamique Intens) and Dynamique Nav Rapid Charge (Dynamique Intens). Expression Nav and Dynamique Nav feature the new motor, known as the R240, while Dynamique Nav Rapid Charge retains the original power unit.

Standard items on Expression Nav include R-Link voice-controlled satellite navigation with a 7-inch tablet touchscreen, Climate control, Renault Keycard entry system, Bluetooth connectivity, a 4x20W radio with four speakers, USB and AUX ports, cruise control, front electric windows and rear privacy glass.

ZOE has a five-star Euro NCAP rating and its comprehensive safety equipment includesESC stability control, ASR traction control, CSV understeer control, Hill Start Assist and six airbags.

A comprehensive array of technology is standard in order to make ZOE as efficient as possible – the Renault Range OptimiZEr range-extender (heat pump, regenerative braking and Michelin ENERGY E-V low-friction tyres); the Renault Chameleon™ charger allowing the battery to be replenished in one to nine hours and adapt itself to always extract the most charge from any charging source, an ECO mode, a Z.E. Connect remote battery monitoring, Z.E. Voice low-speed pedestrian alert, a TFT display with a trip computer and driving style indicator, battery charge indicator, econometer and range indicator.

Renault is continuing to offer ZOE customers a 7kW charging wall box supplied and installed free of charge at their home. This means a charge time from zero to 100 per cent full in 3-4 hours.

Dynamique Nav adds a hands-free Keycard, rear parking camera linked to the touchscreen, Z.E. Interactive (remote battery charging, remote charge scheduling and remote interior temperature pre-conditioning), 3D digital sound by Arkamys, rear electric windows, bespoke upholstery, a leather-rimmed steering wheel and gearshifter, 16-inch Aerotronic alloy wheels and automatic lights and wipers.

Dynamique Nav Rapid Charge is identically equipped but can be recharged to 80 per cent of capacity in just 30 minutes through a 43kW charge point.  The official NEDC range is 130 miles, which translates to a ‘real-world’ range of around  64 miles in cold weather and 93 miles in temperate conditions.

All our own work – Renault’s class-leading new motor

The R240 motor, engineered by Renault over an eight-year period and manufactured at the company’s Cléon factory in Normandy, extends operating range by almost 15 per cent to a class-leading 149 miles in the New European Driving Cycle. It gives ZOE a real-world range of 71 to 106 miles, depending on driving style, the use of electrical features like air conditioning, the season and where the car is being driven. It is fundamental to Renault’s strategy of improving the range and performance of electric vehicles by advancing battery and motor technology.

It features integrated rather than stacked modules, with reduced gaps and no external power cables so that it is more compact. It also has a simplified air-cooling system and a three-in-one junction box incorporating the Chameleon™ charger and power electronics to form a single unit called the Power Electronic Controller. In the R240 motor this is the only part which is water-cooled.

The result is a 10 per cent reduction in size with no loss of performance, and with reduced energy consumption and faster charge times. This makes it especially suitable for use in smaller cars. The Chameleon™ charger has also been reworked for use with the R240 motor.

Both motors develop a maximum output of 65kW (88hp) and near-instantaneous maximum torque of 220Nm available in less than one-hundredth of a second. They deliver identical driving performance, with 0-30mph attainable in around four seconds and 0-50mph in 8.6 seconds.

The decision to offer two motors comes about because Renault has identified distinct types of use among its EV customers. Many have regular driving patterns, and will therefore appreciate the increased range and reduced charging requirements with the R240 motor. But others are less predictable in the way they use their car. For them, ultimate range is usually not a handicap – but they need the ability to rapid-charge to 80 per cent of battery capacity in the shortest possible time on occasions.

Sales performance

In an increasing electric vehicle market in the UK that was up 83.0 per cent in the first half of the year compared to 2014, sales of Renault’s electric vehicle range, comprising of ZOE, Twizy and Kangoo Z.E., rose by 145.9 per cent across the same period, with 949 EVs sold. ZOE contributed strongly to this performance, with 767 examples of the all-electric hatchback being sold – a 244.0 per cent increase on the first six months of 2014.

New three-model Twizy line-up

For Twizy, Expression replaces the former Urban version and Dynamique takes the place of Technic in the line-up while the Cargo remains unchanged. There have been minor changes to colours, trims and wheels.

Expression comes as standard with a driver airbag, a single-speed automatic transmission, range and eco-score indicators, regenerative braking, a battery gauge and econometer, a 31-litre lockable storage area behind the rear seat, all-round disc brakes, a drive and speed display, an engine immobiliser, 13-inch Grey Snowflake wheel trims, an adjustable front seat with built-in headrest, a quick-demist heated windscreen, a lockable steering column, four-point front and three-point rear seatbelts and a lateral wind deflector.

Dynamique supplements this with 13-inch Diamond alloy wheels in Gloss Black, Flame Orange or Urban Blue and a choice of 14 two-tone colour collections for the wheel arches, seat covers and mirror housings.

The Cargo version of Twizy dispenses with the rear seat, expanding the carrying capacity to 180 litres with a lockable storage area – sufficient for commercial applications such as urban area deliveries or for carrying equipment or tools.

Kadjar allows a significant level of personalisation through individual options and cost-saving packages. There are seven themed high-value equipment packages, depending on model.

The Climate Pack for Expression+ delivers automatic dual-zone climate control and automatic headlights and wipers. The Parking Pack on Dynamique Nav adds front and rear parking sensors and electrically adjustable heated and folding door mirrors. For Signature Nav, the Parking Pack Premium includes Park Assist (Handsfree parking and rear parking camera); the Safety Pack Premium adds blind spot warning and automatic emergency braking; while the Techno Pack Premium includes all these options. The one-touch easy rear-seat folding system is offered in the Dynamique Nav’s Convenience Pack, while leather seats with height adjustment and seat heating make up the Leather Pack for Signature Nav.

Other accessories include side running boards, wheel arch extensions, a retractable tow bar which can be released from within the boot and illuminated lower body side mouldings.

New vehicle architecture

Kadjar is based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s versatile new Common Module Family (CMF) architecture, which allows a wide range of cars of different sizes to be created using a variety of modules consisting of out-of-view parts.  The platform is based around five available modules: Cockpit, Engine Bay, Front underbody, Rear underbody and Electronic architecture.

The three engines on offer are the 1.2-litre turbocharged TCe 130 hp four-cylinder direct-injection petrol unit, the 1.5-litre ENERGY dCi 110 hp four-cylinder diesel and the 1.6-litre ENERGY dCi four-cylinder 130 hp diesel.

An Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) automatic gearbox is available with the dCi 110 engine. Intelligent four-wheel drive with three operating modes – Auto, LOCK and 2WD –is offered with the dCi 130 in the three upper trim levels.

The three engines, two gearboxes and two drive systems offer fuel economy of up to 74.3mpg, with CO2 emissions as low as 99g/km. Contributors to this are the sleek shape and low weight of the car (from 1,306kg); the Renault engine Stop&Start system, which is standard on all manual models; the double-clutch EDC transmission in place of a more fuel-sapping torque converter system; an ECO driving mode which optimises the engine’s performance when cruising; the Renault Driving eco2 feature to help owners adopt a more economical driving style; and standard brake energy recovery.

Three cars in one

Renault showed how it could mould its instinctively French design flair to the world of crossovers with global appeal with Captur. Kadjar extends this by being effectively three cars in one – a subtle blend of SUV, estate and saloon – designed to slot into a cityscape or the countryside with equal ease.

All versions provide the peace of mind of Renault’s 4+ warranty and assistance package. The car is protected against defects recognised by Renault for four years or 100,000 miles (first two years have no mileage limit). In the event of a breakdown, Renault provides emergency roadside repairs or towing to the nearest dealer 24/7 every day of the year, plus three years’ European cover. There is also a three-year paint warranty and 12 years’ cover against corrosion. Servicing is required once a year or every 18,000 miles.

UK order books open in July, with first deliveries expected in late September. European versions of Kadjar are built at the Palencia plant in Spain. In 2016, Kadjar will also become the first Renault to be made in China as a result of a joint venture with Dongfeng.

Dacia Reaches 50,000 new cars sales milestone in the UK

50,000th DaciaUK Sale milestone

Dacia’s 50,000th UK car sale milestone

  • Dacia reaches 50,000 new car sales in UK
  • Landmark firmly establishes Dacia as leading ‘value’ brand
  • Milestone model is a Dacia Duster Lauréate
  • Dacia was launched in the UK in January 2013

Dacia has clocked up its 50,000th new car sale in the UK, confirming its position as the nation’s favourite value car brand.

The smart-buy carmaker – known for its straight-talking approach and ‘shockingly affordable’ pricing – has reached the landmark despite only coming to the UK in 2013.

Dacia’s biggest seller in the UK has been the Sandero Stepway – with 16,834 sales, whilst the Duster, the UK’s most affordable SUV has accounted for 16,541 of the 50,000 total. The Sandero – still the UK’s most affordable car and Logan MCV have also proved very popular with cost-conscious car buyers, achieving 12,432 and 4,193 sales respectively.

According to the latest sales figures out today from the SMMT, Dacia has sold 9,849 new cars in the UK as at the end of April – a rise of 11.9 per cent on 2014 and representing a market share of 1.1 per cent. Sales in April were up 17.2 per cent on the same month last year at 2,320 vehicles with a market share for the month of 1.3 per cent.

Since landing in UK showrooms, Dacia has proved extremely popular with private buyers. So far in 2015, 96 per cent of Dacias sold in the UK have been retail sales.

The 50,000 milestone was reached just days after Dacia maintained its position as fifth best brand, ahead of many luxury and premium rivals, in the influential Auto Express Driver Power survey. Dacia drivers scored the brand highly for practicality, in-car technology and servicing costs and rated the brand number one for fuel economy and other running costs.

Commenting on Dacia’s performance, Andy Heiron, Dacia UK Brand Manager, said: “When Dacia arrived in the UK it immediately struck a chord with new car buyers looking for maximum value for money. And in a short space of time the brand has evolved and built a strong reputation that’s about much more than a low price point.

“We are now seeing lots of repeat business from customers moving into their second or even third Dacia, motorists moving up through the Dacia range and conquest business from other more established brands.

He added: “We’re absolutely delighted to have reached the 50,000 landmark so quickly and it gives us a very solid platform on which to build even further growth. There are exciting times ahead for Dacia in the UK.”

The 50,000th Dacia sold was a Duster Lauréate dCi 110 4×2 in Khaki. It was sold by Westover Dacia in Corfe Mullen, Dorset, and was bought by Steve and Debbie Joy who part-exchanged another Duster they bought new when it was first launched.

After tens of thousands of miles of low cost fault-free motoring, the Joys, from Bournemouth, decided the time was right for a new car and the Duster was the only model on their radar.

To mark the occasion, the couple was presented by Dacia UK with a Dacia Service Plan – available on all Dacia models for a fee of £489 – which covers the cost of all routine servicing and maintenance for the first three years or 36,000 miles.

Steve Joy said: “I think for value for money and affordability, the Duster is top of its class. You just can’t beat it.”

“We couldn’t believe it when we were told our new car was the 50,000th Dacia sold in the UK. Our original was one of the first to be delivered so it’s great”, he added.

Dacia is part of Renault Group (Renault cars, Renault vans and Dacia), which has experienced an unprecedented period of ahead-of-the-market growth over the last two years. This growth has continued into 2015 with 41,369 sales for the Group in the UK as at the end of April – up 17 per cent on the same period last year and representing a four per cent share of the UK car market.

Renault rises up the ranks in Auto Express Driver Power 2015 survey

All New TwingoRenault rises up the ranks in Auto Express Driver Power 2015 survey

  • Renault rises eight places to finish seventh overall
  • Second consecutive year Renault has improved in owner survey
  • ZOE dubbed “Best EV” after 5th place overall debut

Renault has continued to rise up the ranks in the Auto Express Driver Power 2015 survey rising eight places to seventh overall out of 32 brands, ahead of many premium manufacturers, and building on last year’s six place rise.

Renault’s score of 87.08 per cent was attributed in the survey to finishing fourth overall for running costs, seventh for in-car technology and eighth for ride quality. Customer satisfaction with reliability and build quality has also improved.

The 100% electric Renault ZOE supermini finished an impressive fifth overall out of 200 vehicles and rated as the best electric vehicle to own. ZOE was also rated the number one vehicle in this year’s survey for low running costs as well as second overall for ease of driving.

Auto Express said in summary of Renault’s performance: “Last year it scored 15th overall with 85.88 per cent, helped by the new Captur. Now, though, it’s jumped a further eight places and catapulted itself into the top 10.  It really is quite an impressive performance in such a competitive field.”

Commenting on Renault’s performance in the survey, Ken Ramirez, Managing Director, Renault UK, said: “We’re delighted that our commitment and focus on quality has been recognised again in this year’s survey with the Renault brand’s eight place improvement to seventh rank overall, particularly following a six place jump last year – improving a total of fourteen places in just two years.

Product and Service Quality are fundamental parts of our GO5+ mid-term plan objectives and it is therefore highly encouraging to see that real customer feedback place both our brands, Renault and Dacia, amongst the Top10 in the industry,” added Ramirez.

The Auto Express Driver Power survey had its largest response ever in 2015 with 61,113 car owners, up 20 per cent on 2014, completing the comprehensive survey about their vehicle ownership experience.

Renault UK car sales in the first quarter of 2015 were up 16.6 per cent on 2014 with 20,593 cars registered.  2014 full-year sales stood at 66,334, up 43.7 per cent.

Renaultsport R.S0.1. prize for Clio Cup Champ

A test in Renaultsport’s sensational 500bhp R.S.0.1 silhouette sports racing car has been confirmed as a bonus prize for the winner of 2015’s Renault UK Clio Cup.

This is in addition to the British Touring Car test with leading team Motorbase already confirmed for this year’s eventual Clio Cup Champion.

R.S.0.1 made its UK debut at January’s Autosport International Show and proved an immediate star attraction among the 90,000 visitors thanks to its stunning looks and shattering performance statistics. Four-times Formula 1 World Champion Alain Prost was full of praise for the car when he shook it down for Renaultsport’s engineers during its initial development phase…

The car is to form a single-model championship in Europe this year as part of Renaultsport’s World Series by Renault package of events which come to the UK (Silverstone) on the weekend of Sat 5/Sun 6 September.

Xavier Gonzalez, Renaultsport’s Sporting Manager said: “It is important to look at how many top names from the UK Clio Cup and the ‘Renault family’ have graduated very successfully into both touring cars andinternational GT competition.

“The UK Clio Cup is Britain’s best single-model saloon car championship without a doubt. Indeed its top drivers have often shone in tests in our previous silhouette racers and it will be very interesting to see how the 2015 UK Clio Cup Champion performs in R.S.0.1 – our best yet!”

Renault UK Clio Cup Championship Manager Will Fewkes commented: “R.S.0.1 is one of the most talked about silhouette sports racing cars in 2015 and a test in one for our eventual Champion really is something special.

“The car demonstrates Renault’s engineering excellence in motor sport as well as the company’s long standing passion and commitment to supporting motor sport and emerging talent.

“Being able to confirm tests in R.S.0.1 and also with BTCC team Motorbase brings even more kudos to being crowned 2015 Renault UK Clio Cup Champion.”

Dacia Prime Special edition

Dacia Prime Special edition

  • New top-of-the-range versions of Sandero, Duster and Logan MCV
  • Revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March
  • Celebrating 10 years since Dacia’s rebirth in Europe
  • Styling and trim upgrades reflect Dacia’s traditional blue livery
  • Enhanced equipment led by new MediaNav Evolution connectivity
  • Cosmos Blue metallic paint as standard
  • All for just £500 more than the standard Lauréate versions

Dacia today announces UK pricing and specification for the top-of-the-range Lauréate Prime special edition versions of the Sandero, Duster and Logan MCV, which were unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show at the beginning of March.

These luxuriously appointed models, featuring an exclusive colour scheme, are being introduced to mark 10 years since the Romanian brand re-launched in Europe in 2005, and are available for just £500 more than the existing Lauréate versions. It offers buyers the chance to own a more distinctive, more personalised car while remaining faithful to Dacia’s exceptional ‘shockingly affordable’ value-for-money ethos.

All Lauréate Prime special editions are finished in exclusive Cosmos Blue metallic paint, which pays homage to Dacia’s traditional livery. This is reflected inside each car, with blue fabric inserts on the front and rear seats, blue detailing on the floor mats and blue seat belts.

Other distinguishing exterior features are smart dark metal alloy wheels and dark metal grey door mirror shells. Additional equipment over Lauréate versions includes a front central armrest, electric rear windows, leather steering wheel and the latest MediaNav Evolution multimedia system.

This has been re-designed with a full-colour menu screen and now features Apple’s SIRI voice recognition function, full seven-digit postcode recognition and TMC live traffic information. There have been hardware improvements, and the system allows access to the AHA cloud platform via a free smartphone app. Through the seven-inch multi-media touch-screen users have access to navigation, infotainment  and hands-free telephone services; can stream music via Bluetooth or a USB or AUX connection; and can connect to social networks via a smartphone.

Collectively, the addition of metallic paint, MediaNav Evolution and the Comfort Pack would cost up to £895 as options on the Lauréate (on Sandero and Logan MCV), yet they are all standard on the Lauréate Prime for a premium of just £500, embodying the very spirit of Dacia’s ‘you do the maths’ strapline.

All features that are standard on Lauréate versions have been retained on the Lauréate Prime. These include climate control, cruise control with a speed limiter, heated and electrically adjustable door mirrors, central locking and, on the Duster, satin chrome roof bars, side sills and front and rear scuff plates, as well as ESC and ASR (traction control) – both of which are standard across the whole Dacia range.

Lauréate Prime versions of the Sandero and Logan MCV are available with the 0.9-litre TCe 90 and 1.5-litre dCi 90 engines, while the Duster Lauréate Prime comes with the 1.5-litre dCi 110 engine in two- and four-wheel-drive configurations.
